PBS saved!

This is a testament on how just a mouse click or a phone call can make all the difference.
from moveon.org:

It's a Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood
Congress Votes to Restore $100 Million to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Statement by Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn.org

"We are delighted that we were able to help restore some of the cuts made to NPR and PBS. MoveOn.org members sent in more than 1 million comments and made more than 40,000 calls to tell Congress to save Big Bird and Mr. Rogers. We are glad to have helped protect such an important service."

Thanks to all who signed the petition at moveon.org. We did it!

For those who missed it THIS is why I love Sesame Street and PBS so much. They were a HUGE part of my childhood. I'm glad that their government funding won't be cut and that there are people who will defend those loveable puppets!

Giuliani Back in the Day...

CLICK TO WATCH CLIP.

Over a decade ago (can't believe it's been that long, yeesh) Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (well, back then he wasn't mayor yet) gave the commencement address at Mott Hall, my Junior High School graduation. This was before September 11th, when Rudy had more hair on his head and perhaps less stress.

The other day I saw Mariah's vlog over at Missing Kitten TV, and she mentioned that Congress was voting to cut the budget on public broadcasting. A little research proved to be disheartening. Apparently Big Bird and Clifford the Big Red Dog are now on the "endangered species" list.

In this vlog Giuliani urges us to think about working for the government. I wonder if there is now a difference between working for the government and working for the people? Has there always been? What can we do so that we the public maintain our voice in media??? I think vlogging is one way. But there needs to be more.

Save NPR and PBS - from moveon.org

"The House is threatening to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow" and other commercial-free children's shows. Sign our petition to Congress opposing these massive cuts to public broadcasting. Tell your senators and representative: "Congress must save NPR, PBS and local public stations. We trust them for in-depth news and educational children's programming. It's money well spent.""

Hello Senator....

CLICK TO WATCH CLIP.

I sense a powerful disturbance in the force... Okay, I think I came off very serious in my question. Steve and I were laughing about it, quoting Star Wars and what not. Anyway...

Sometime back I was asked to video tape a question by the Rocketboomers that would be answered by none other than Senator John Edwards himself. Today I got his answer. So yeah okay, my name isn't Audi (not a big deal, it happens all time:)), and a plane flew by, and the tape got cut off - BUT HOW COOL IS THIS? Thanks to Andrew Baron, Amanda Congdon, Michael Verdi, Ryan, and Senator Edwards for making this happen.

Now Senator Edwards is asking EVERYONE to send in a video question to his video blog. So let's start having this conversation. Send in those questions!

It'll be interesting to see what the next election will bring. What do you think? Do you think it will make a difference in how we communicate with our politicians? How they communicate with us?
