Hello Senator....

CLICK TO WATCH CLIP.
I sense a powerful disturbance in the force... Okay, I think I came off very serious in my question. Steve and I were laughing about it, quoting Star Wars and what not. Anyway...
Sometime back I was asked to video tape a question by the Rocketboomers that would be answered by none other than Senator John Edwards himself. Today I got his answer. So yeah okay, my name isn't Audi (not a big deal, it happens all time:)), and a plane flew by, and the tape got cut off - BUT HOW COOL IS THIS? Thanks to Andrew Baron, Amanda Congdon, Michael Verdi, Ryan, and Senator Edwards for making this happen.
Now Senator Edwards is asking EVERYONE to send in a video question to his video blog. So let's start having this conversation. Send in those questions!
It'll be interesting to see what the next election will bring. What do you think? Do you think it will make a difference in how we communicate with our politicians? How they communicate with us?

yeah, Ryanne - when you put it that way, it kinda blows my mind. It's amazing how .... i can't even begin to .... damn, he took time to answer my question. and he ran for vice president. yeah... :)

Audi,(hehe)
Awesome Question!. Wouldn't it be great if there was no corporate funding of politicians? I am very happy that this video-movement is happening!! Again, awesome job contributing to the conversation.

Somtimes the stars don't align -- plane, him missng your name, etc. -- but yes, BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE INTERNET. Excellent question, btw.

I couldn't agree more with the previous comments. I can see this happening but I'm having a hard time believing that we now have a "voice." It's definitely history in the making...
Congrats Audi! ;)

Well, you didn't emphasize the "z" much when you said your name, so I'd cut him some slack. Anyway, super cool. Nice work.
By Jonny Goldstein, at 9:38 PM
yeah, I totally cut him slack. It's happened before.. no big deal.

What would be Really interesting is to have a multiverse of discussions spreading out like this. Not just Edwards, but someone stepping up to the leader of some committee looking into these finances issues, interviewing him, and putting That online. Quoting him. Then - in the long run - we could all have dialogues, in video, in images, without the Big need to be in the same room at the same time. We can research, and exchange points of view, and develop.
Great question!

this is so exciting! and i know this is hackneyed, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.
grrrreat job audi! sorry, i couldn't resist ;)
By annie!, at 12:19 PM
hey zadi, that's awesome - thanks for the info. I'll have to send my question in to the senator, which might be something like "Why the heck didja let Kerry concede the election?!"
By R, at 8:48 PM
Amazing. I would have never expected it to come to this. A great question and use of technology!

Hey! Cool question. The problem with vlogging politicians is that it's not gonna stop them from being politicians.
By Dennis, at 9:32 AM
True, Dennis, very true. But wouldn't you rather hear John Edwards-- "politician-ness" and all-- talk to you directly? Rather than be translated to you by the media?
By Amanda, at 10:21 PM
i have to say that there is something to be said about having a conversation in this way. it makes me wonder how campaigns will be held 20 years. what do you think? do you think technology will change the way we communicate with our leaders? how they communicate with us?
By Zadi, at 9:54 PM
Is there a difference between the videoblog and a televised town hall meeting or interview?
By Anonymous, at 10:33 PM
Zadi, I think we will find that videoblogs will change the NEXT presidential campaign... and gosh, in 20 years.. who knows what will happen... where technology will bring us. But it will be somewhere good, I know that. Anything that encourages citizens to get involved and learn and talk and argue has got to be good.
Anonymous: this is different from anything on television because it is not censored by TV execs or crowded by commercials. It is John Edwards giving his message in his own words.
By Amanda, at 7:22 PM
But isn't John Edwards going to edit and censor what he says? I mean, how is it that different? It's just the people doing the editing that are changing.

anonymous: i see where you're coming from but how about this perspective:
when we have a conversation (face to face) with another person we are constantly editing what we are going to say in our minds before we speak -
now, having this video conversation takes it to another level. now we can have a conversation with someone else, and yes, they and we will edit and censor what we say - but it's self censorship. we have a medium that grants us the power to do that -
like amanda said, the networks won't decide what can or cannot be said because they are worried that the advertisers won't buy spots. here, as long as the technology exists, everyone is on even ground -
you are your own network - your own channel - you are your own editor. we are in essence channeling our voices to one another, independent of big media -
if you or i don't like what edwards (or any other politician) is saying we can counter his argument and get discussions going. we don't have to hope that our "letter to the editor" gets read or published.. we are the reader, the viewer, the editor, the writer, the audience, the producer, the citizen, the bullshit detectors, the enablers.
lines are being broken. new forms of communication are being built. we are able to shape that. you are able to have the power back in your hands - as it should be -so you can speak your mind.
the government works for us, we work for the government - it is symbiotic. this is a way we can hold our representatives accountable. give voices to the good ones. judge for ourselves who we want to support and who we don't.
the difference is in the power. and now the ball is back in our court.
so where's your racket (er, videoblog)? ;)
By Zadi, at 11:40 PM
Well put, Zadi. I was wondering a little the same way anonymous was. I think what you said puts it into a better perspective than just, "Oh, great! Edwards has a vlog!" Thanks.
